Hi! I’m Mr. Woods, and I’m passionate about creating a fun and engaging learning experience for my students. My journey to the classroom started in the hospitality industry, where I worked as an operational manager for a Fortune 100 company. After years in the corporate world, I realized my true calling was to help students develop real-world skills and succeed beyond school.

I hold several degrees, including a Business A.A. from the Center for Degree Studies, an A.A. in Secondary Education from Butler Community College, an A.S. in Paralegal Studies from Ashworth College, a Bachelors in General Studies from Wichita State University (where I graduated *Summa Cum Laude*), and a Master’s of Science in Education from Fort Hays State University. I’m also a proud member of Pi Gamma Mu and Phi Alpha Theta honor societies, reflecting my passion for Social Sciences and History.

I currently teach U.S. History, Geography, Kansas History, Gaming Concepts, PLTW Space and Flight, and PLTW Energy and Environment. I also have the pleasure of coaching and sponsoring our school’s Esports program, which combines two of my passions—technology and competitive gaming. I love guiding students through interactive, hands-on learning experiences that are as enjoyable as they are educational. From Neanderthal poetry slams and dance-offs to design challenges and game-based learning, my classroom is full of activities that empower students to take ownership of their education through voice, choice, and agency.

As a proud Gen Xer, I believe in embracing technology to help students thrive in today’s world. Whether it’s developing Esports skills or diving into project-based learning, I’m always excited to help students unlock their potential in a fun and positive way.

Outside of the classroom, I’ve been happily married for 28 years, and I’m the proud parent of a wonderful daughter and two onery dogs—a spicy Chihuahua and a goofy Miniature Pinscher. I’m also a certified chess coach with the USCF, and I enjoy teaching middle school students the game of chess, helping them sharpen their critical thinking and strategic skills.
